Our Story
Calico Cottage has been part of Munford’s creative heartbeat for over 40 years. Founded by Mrs. Gail, Richie’s grandmother, it was a place where kids and families could experience the joy of art in a warm, welcoming space.
We’re Richie and Rori Newbill—a husband and wife team proud to continue that legacy. Richie, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, grew up in this very shop—washing brushes, setting up classes, and witnessing how art brought the community together. Rori now leads the classes with that same spirit of creativity, energy, and love for teaching that has always defined Calico Cottage.
Rori holds an associate’s degree from the University of Mount Olive and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Together, we’re passionate about making art fun, affordable, and a meaningful part of everyday life in our community.
